How to Make a Kicker for Skateboarding

How to make a kicker for skateboarding. This kicker is super cheap and easy to make, small enough to fit in your car and 1000000x better than one of those plastic ramps you get from Argos.

  • 6x 2"x 4" timber at 23.75" long

  • 1x 2mm thick sheet steel measuring 10" x 25"

Building the Kicker

Once you've got all your materials cut to size the first step is to assemble the base of the ramp. I started by screwing two of the 2x4's to the sides at either end of the ramp. This made it strong enough to stand by itself making it easy to screw the rest of the 2x4's in place.

Next you're going to want to lay the 1/2" sheet of ply wood on top of the ramp and screw down into the 2x4's. Before screwing it down I found it helpful to mark where the 2x4's were on the sides of the ramp so that I could see where to screw into.

The next step is to drill some holes into your sheet steel so you can fix the steel to the ramp. I drilled 6 holes in total (2 on each side and 2 in the middle). It's a good idea to counter sink the holes so that the screw heads will fit flush with the ramp. Once you've got all the holes drilled out, lay the sheet steel at the bottom of the ramp and screw it down. Try to screw into the 2x4's and make sure the sheet metal is flush with the ground so you don't slam when you skate up it!

The bonus last step is to screw on some old trucks and wheels and cut out some handles so you can roll up to a spot like a boss and move your kicker around with ease!
